Custom Remodeling Process Outline
Getting Started
- Start looking around at your friends’ homes, kitchen and bath design magazines, and parade of homes etc. And start noticing the styles that you and your family like. Also notice what you dislike or what themes you don’t what to have.
- Start a remodeling file and start putting the photo’s you like in it making post up’s on each page denoting what you like, or dislike. Make a note to yourself what colors or styles that keep catching your eye.
- Discuss these idea’s with your family and friends and ask for their feedback and opinions.
- Decide on a realistic budget and don’t forget to allow for some fun changes that may affect the final cost of doing your project. Remember the items like the furniture, or the new draperies, or the carpet for the front room. Proper planning now can make for a very enjoyable experience.
- Fill out the NKBA kitchen planning questioner.
- Call the showroom and set up an appointment at the showroom.
Visiting Our Showroom:
- At our first planning meeting with you, we would like to spend some time answering any questions you might have about doing a project like this, we will look over the pictures in you REMODELING FILE, and get a feel for your project. We want this time to be a time where we get to know each other, for we know we will need to be working closely together on your project.
- We will do some concept drawings with you and set up a time to come to your home and get a first hand look at the project.
- We will discuss budgets, project start and completion times, and any other pertinent details.
- We will discuss the deign fee and discuss the expectations of both parties.
Your Home Consultation
- We will again discuss your likes, dislikes and begin to do exact renderings and drawings.
- We will investigate the feasibility of the project while continuing to keep you budget in mind.
- We will look at the plumbing, the electrical, the new appliances that you have decided to use, and the framing to help eliminate any additional cost over runs. This will help keep you in budget.
- We will set up another time to visit again to go over drawings, costs, and the options for your project.
Designing and Ordering
- During this phase of the design process, we will start to put all the details together. Actual sizes, designs, trims and accessories that are to be used.
- The actual working drawings, elevations and 3D perspectives will be created for your approval.
- We will provide you with the work order which will detail out all the products and the name brands of the material to be used for approval.
- We will go over any outstanding questions or modifications of the plans as needed.
- We will get your approval to proceed and schedule your project.
- We will ask you to write the applicable check in order to start the construction process.
The Construction Process
- We will get the applicable permits while waiting for the cabinets to be manufactured.
- We will provide a dumpster or dump trailer to haul away all debris.
- Before the tear out is done we will mask off the work area from the rest of your home for dust control.
- We will do all construction including framing, electrical, heating or plumbing.
- We will get the inspections as required by the local licensing officials.
- We will do all sheetrock, all mudding, taping, sanding and texturing of walls and ceiling.
- We will do all painting and floor coverings.
- We will install all cabinets, countertops.
- We will do all finish plumbing, electrical and all backsplashes.
- We will install all appliances and fixtures.
- We will do all clean up and touch ups.
- We will get all final inspections.
- We will do a walk thru with you and make any corrections as needed.
